OUR WORK

The Youth Sustainable Development Studies Center, founded by HRH Prince Professor Adel EL-Hashemite in 1986, strives to empower Youth and enhance their participation in the scholarly exchange of knowledge on sustainable development and promotes joint research across sciences on sustainable development issues. The Center, comprised of an interdisciplinary group of youth and junior professionals, work focuses on contemporary issues and challenges, inter alia, education, health, food and agriculture, energy, environment, multilateralism, and beyond.

Conferences & Fora

We promote rigorous and objective studies on issues related to sustainable development. The outcomes are disseminated through conferences and fora. We organize, either independently or in collaboration with key national and international organizations, conferences and fora, which carry major themes ranging from science, technology, education, social sciences and humanities, to human rights, among others.

Research & Studies

Our researchers investigate the various ways social sciences, and interdisciplinary work, contribute to a sustainable world. Our Youth excel in transdisciplinary  approaches to research and knowledge sharing, and work closely with the public and private sectors.

We co-create context-appropriate solutions through equitable and inclusive partnerships, and carefully consider the global interdependencies of economic and social development, and environmental protection.

Advisory Consultancy

The interdisciplinary group of well-trained youth and junior professionals serves as a liaison between communities and organizations and multi-stakeholders to assist with frameworks, support in designing strategies, define challenges and propose solutions, provide action plans for program implementations, and beyond.

Summer Internship

The internship focuses on building youth analytical skills and knowledge, developing their research abilities, and giving them the opportunity to present their recommendations to help countries achieve the 2030 Agenda.

Every year, under the supervision of RASIT’s experts, and professional fellows, the youth interns will be reviewing and examining the Voluntary National Reports presented by governments during the United Nations High-Level Political Forum.

Impact Stories .. in brief

Three hundred and fifty (350) university students representing 89 countries, discussed and debated with 50 professionals the status of Science, Technology, and Medicine Higher Education in the World and drew their own recommendations and solutions to help improve the current system and narrow the gap between developed and developing countries.

The generated recommendations were signed by all students and sent to policymakers worldwide and international organizations for implementation. UNESCO used the generated recommendations to organize its three world conferences on higher education, science, and culture. Other countries, including the Commonwealth member states, the United Kingdom, and France, have implemented the recommendations.

The success of the congress has inspired governments to further acknowledge the role of Youth in development programs by adopting the United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/54/120, proclaiming August 12 as International Youth Day.

Youth were given for the first time the opportunity to lead decision-making on developing a higher education system for socio-economic development. Youth participants developed the Congress’s core values: Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in Education for Peace and Development. It is noteworthy to highlight that the concept of Health and Science Tourism, generated by an Egyptian youth participant, became a world trend as a result of implementing the recommendations.

Representing 18 countries, 36 youths (18 females and 18 males) worked under the leadership of HRH Princess Dr. Nisreen El-Hashemite (RASIT) and the Director of the UNESCO Office in Tunisia, to organize the Congress.

ALI FRAHAT DEFENDS THE FIRST ACADEMIC THESIS ON THE UN 2030 AGENDA AND ITS 17 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Ali Farhat, RASIT Youth Representative to the UN (2016-2017) defended his Master’s degree thesis at University College London in 2016. The Thesis is the first academic dissertation on the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The Thesis was co-supervised by HRH Princess Dr. Nisreen El-Hashemite, Executive Director of the Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT).

The title of the Thesis is “Achieving Sustainable Development for Health through Renewable Energies”. Ali’s thesis is exceptionally unique, as he presented a unique concept for health sustainability:

“Solutions in achieving the SDGs goals are in renewable energies, where the struggles of executing projects may be set back due to financial and political disputes, however vast funding of up to $5.3 trillion can be redirected from subsidies paid into fossil-fired plants and into renewable energies for full implementation of the 2030 Development Agenda.”
