human beings cannot survive in science alone, arts and culture are very important in developing human thinking.

the late HRH Prince Mohammad bin King Faisal (I) of Iraq El-Hashemite

The Founder, Royal Academy of Science International Trust

Human development describes a complex web of factors affecting the health and well-being of individuals across the lifespan. Together, these factors yield cognitive and behavioral outcomes that can shape the social and economic circumstances of individuals and their levels of creativity, productivity, and overall quality of life.

With the rapid changes in the rhythm of life, RASIT’s Founder - the late HRH Prince Mohammad bin King Faisal (I) of Iraq El-Hashemite, recognized a need for strategies and interventions to address “the whole person”, through a more integrated approach to policy development—one that can reach every person at various stages of life, across generations, and in multiple learning contexts. Prince Mohammad’s study confirmed that the arts and culture are ideally suited to promote this integrated approach.

RASIT's Arts and Culture Council promotes arts education and arts participation as one of the main pillars of achieving socio-economic sustainable development.

Through Arts and Culture activities, RASIT's objective is to improve cognitive, social, and behavioral outcomes in individuals across the lifespan: in early childhood, in adolescence and young adulthood, and in later years.

FOCUS AREAS AND PRIORITIES

EXHIBITIONS

Art is a way of expressing emotions uniquely. Techniques are only effective if admirers can see and understand them. Exhibitions help bring the essence and emotions of art to the people who will admire and understand it.

Exhibitions are a way for artists to communicate with the world. Often, artists display their most complex emotions in their best works. They can share with the world these feelings through an exhibition. There are times when these artworks provide a powerful platform to highlight peace and love or challenges in our world.

RASIT’s Exhibitions are set to motivate people through the arts shared with the world.

WONDERS OF COFFEE ART

"Wonders of Coffee" is the unique and extraordinary art of painting with coffee by HRH Princess Dr. Nisreen El-Hashemite.

In her words, the Princess describes painting with coffee as:

"Using coffee is a wonderful thing, it is not just a drink, but it is a natural organic substance that allows me to achieve depth and texture in my work. By painting with coffee, I hope to inspire respect for nature and its beauty. I am inspired to paint by events that strike a chord within me. There is both a story and a poem behind each of my paintings. My paintings talk about love, tolerance and peace, but most importantly, they speak of hope. As an artist I believe that all we need is a moment of imagination, to do the unthinkable and create pleasure for our souls."

CULTURE FOR PEACE

RASIT’s contributes to human development by promoting peace and collaboration among the nations through arts and culture.

Within the Culture of Peace framework, peace embraces far more than an absence of conflict. It encompasses tolerance, disarmament, sustainable economic and social development, democratic participation, gender equality, freedom of expression and respect for human rights.

The transition from a culture of violence to a Culture of Peace requires the transformation of individual behavior as well as institutional practices. Learning to live in peace and harmony is a long-term process, and begins with the development of inner peace, and nurturing attitudes that promote the expansion and integration of peaceful principles.

Arts and Culture are the main pillars in this process.

SYMPOSIA

RASIT Arts and Culture Symposia are a series of events that bring people who are interested in the arts together to share their ideas, knowledge, and experience around a theme.

The first four symposia were directed at university students, graduates, and faculty members to present their papers and research. The success of the events has allowed them to grow, with participants coming from different countries and backgrounds. From 1995 to 2003, the definition of ‘arts’ grew with each symposium. Apart from fine arts and art history, the symposia brought films, theaters, and music into the fold. Since 2004, RASIT Arts and Culture Symposia has been working together people in all arts disciplines and media: filmmakers, academics, researchers, and students in the arts Archivists, historians, curators, policymakers and professionals from different fields, including education, the humanities, science, and social sciences.

In line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, and since 2016, RASIT has been embracing Socio-Economic Sustainable Development through the creative arts. Our events focus on the critical role of the creative economy in promoting innovation, inclusive economic growth, and opportunity for all. We have built upon the work of RASIT and its Arts and Culture Council for over 50 years. By connecting partners, old and new, from across the globe, we raise awareness, collaboration, and build understanding of the creative economy as a driver of sustainable development.

With our fellow artists and partners, we convene symposia and conversations about how to draw upon the magic, complexity, and impact of the creative economy to tackle Sustainable Development, particularly issues of income inequality and climate emergencies. RASIT has been building meaningful cultural relations by exploring concepts of creativity, the arts, economics, development, sustainability, and the intersections between them through a wide range of events.

DOCUMENTATION TRADITIONAL ARTS AND CULTURE

Arts and Culture documentation seeks to capture and preserve the intangible cultural heritage of societies and communities with audio and video recordings. The goal is to preserve these practices and to make them a focus of study, as a way of valuing people around the world who rightly want to see their unique expressions and identities recognized and valued as part of the human record. RASIR works on several areas, including.....

MUSIC UNITES US CONCERTS

Music has an effective role in human development and in building peace within people.

The impact of live music on human physiology and psychology was researched by many of RASIT’s fellow members and scientists around the world. Studies revealed the positive links between live concert attendance and the health and wellness of people. In general, the findings clearly revealed the positive correlation between live music and stress reduction, happiness, contentment, productivity, and self-esteem.

RASIT organizes concerts under the theme “Music Unites Us”, with an aim to provide opportunities for people to see humanity in one another, helping them to break down barriers and find common ground.

Music Unites Us Concerts provide a vehicle through which people can express emotion, build empathy and think peace.

CULTURE OF SUSTAINABILITY

In a world stretched thin for resources and under the threat of global biodiversity loss and climate change, contemporary lifestyle decisions are putting the planet at risk. In our modern lifestyle, people have become accustomed to overconsuming commodities without considering their environmental impact. Unbridled consumption has put immense strain on natural resources and, in turn, on well-being. Sustainable living means understanding how our lifestyle choices impact the world around us and finding ways for everyone to live better and lighter.

Applying a “village people and culture lens: to sustainability is timely and needed, and its opportunities are great. RASIT is at the forefront of looking into what culturally sustainable lifestyles in villages are and how educating societies can be better harnessed for sustainability.

RASIT fellow social scientists are exploring the cultural values and model of social life in rural communities as a model for a more sustainable, conscious, and respectful way of life for healthier people and the planet.

WOMEN IN ART

Women Artists have been marginalized for decades. Gender bias is less overt today, but contemporary women artists still face many obstacles and disparities, as well as persistent underrepresentation in museum collections and exhibitions worldwide. Their historical precursors still deserve to have their stories told.

The RASIT Women in Arts program aims to promote and support women artists around the world. We further promote the values and cultural diversity of women artists to the public and more to arts and culture institutions. We organize and support events that are accessible to the greatest number of people. In addition, we foster open debate on the women artists of yesterday and today, and their contributions to the world of the arts.

RASIT goes beyond organizing major events. We introduce women specialized in all fields of the arts as changemakers, creators, and bearers of sustainable development. In collaboration with our fellow artists and network, RASIT also provides capacity building and development for women and female youth interested in the arts.

If we go back in time to the historic development of science, we can see how literature, arts and culture had a great impact on identifying the problems and the need to improve the quality of human life, which in turn helped scientists develop their research work…

In the past, scientists worked closely with artists and literary writers to transfer the magnificence and beauty of scientific development to non-specialized individuals…. Unfortunately, in recent years, we have rarely found such collaboration, and this has resulted in the growth of fears and anxiety about any advancement or development.

If we aim for peace and prosperity, arts and culture must be, like science and education, a foundation for sustainable and equitable development.
